Everyday oral hygiene: advice from your dentist in Agadir

Brushing, the foundation
Careful brushing twice a day, morning and evening, for about two minutes, with a soft brush and a fluoride toothpaste, removes plaque before it turns into tartar. Angle the brush at 45° towards the gum and make small movements from the gum to the tooth, surface by surface, without forgetting the inner faces and the chewing surfaces. Change your brush every three months.
Manual or electric? Both work if the technique is good. An electric brush makes regular, gentler brushing easier, which often makes it preferable for people who brush too hard or have limited dexterity.
Floss and interdental brushes
A toothbrush does not reach the spaces between the teeth, where a large share of decay and gum inflammation starts. Floss suits tight spaces; interdental brushes, available in several sizes, are more effective as soon as the space allows and are essential around implants, bridges and braces. Once a day, preferably in the evening, is enough.
Diet and habits
It is not only the amount of sugar that counts but the frequency: every sugary intake triggers an acid attack of about twenty minutes. Limiting snacks and sweet or acidic drinks between meals, drinking water, finishing a meal with a neutral food or sugar-free gum, and not smoking effectively protect teeth and gums.
Bad breath: what to do?
Bad breath most often comes from the mouth: plaque, tartar, inflamed gums, decay or a coating on the tongue. Thorough brushing including the tongue, interdental cleaning and a professional cleaning solve most cases. If it persists with a healthy mouth, an ENT or digestive cause should be looked for.
Regular check-ups
Even with perfect hygiene, a yearly check-up (every six months for people at risk) detects early decay, gingivitis or wear before they cause problems, and includes a cleaning. At Centre Dentaire BAHA in Agadir, every visit is an opportunity for personalised hygiene advice adapted to your mouth and habits.
Frequently asked questions
Should I brush after every meal?
Two good brushings a day are enough. After an acidic meal, wait thirty minutes before brushing so as not to wear the softened enamel.
Does mouthwash replace brushing?
No. It can complement brushing occasionally, but only the brush, floss and interdental brushes remove plaque mechanically.
How often should I change my toothbrush?
About every three months, or as soon as the bristles splay, and after an infection.
